The Everest Region

The main trek in the Everest region is, of course, the Everest Base Camp trek. Because of the current troubles in the area south of the trekking we are not offering the traditional start from Jiri at present. Instead we start and finish all our treks in the region at Lukla which is well to the north of the troubled area.

Lukla’s airport is one of the most exciting in the world; the airstrip is 600m long with an 11° slope and a stone wall across the top end. It’s like landing on an aircraft carrier except that carriers do not have the wall! The airport was entirely renovated in 2001 and now has excellent facilities.

Our four trekking peaks here are: Island Peak (Imja Tse), Lobuche East Peak, Parchamo Peak and Mera Peak (which is situated in the Makalu region but is approached from Lukla).
